A fallen hometown hero will be forever remembered outside a high school football field in Waterloo.
A new monument outside the school will memorialize U.S. Army Staff Sargeant Eric Steffeney. Steffeney died when a roadside bomb killed him in Iraq in 2005.
Family members and supporters gathered at the dedication to honor his memory.
Steffeney was serving his second tour during Operation Iraqi Freedom when he died. He left behind a wife and three children.
Steffeney received three good conduct medals and four army achievement medals. After his death, he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
