Des Moines officials expect crews to pour the deck on the new the Grand Avenue bridge Thursday morning. The work is supposed to begin at 7:00 a.m.
Crews had hoped to begin pouring the concrete Tuesday but the cold weather slowed down the work.
At least three lanes of the bridge are scheduled to be open by November 29th. That’s nearly a month after it was originally scheduled to be complete.
The extended closure of Grand Avenue’s link between Des Moines and West Des Moines has drawn criticism from businesses and residents in the area. Business owners say they’re seeing fewer customers because the detour takes people well out of the area.
