Heart attacks are the leading cause of death in the United States.  The three hospitals at UnityPoint Health – Des Moines have been designated as Chest Pain Centers receiving full accreditation from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care.

Dr. Rachael Sokol, Emergency Department says, "To achieve the accreditation, we were able to meet or exceed a strict set of criteria for acute cardiac medicine. All our hospitals demonstrated expertise and a commitment to quality patient care."

In a cardiac emergency, receiving fast treatment is crucial. If you are having chest pain or think you could be having a heart attack, don’t wait. Call 9-1-1 immediately.

Dr. Sokol  says,  "With coordinated care, our teams reduced the time to treatment during the critical early stages of a heart attack, when treatments are most effective.   Physicians also can better monitor patients to determine whether treatment is needed when it’s not clear whether or not they are having a coronary event."
