The 911 call came in as a hit and run so Des Moines Police thought a driver had fled the scene.  They soon realized, they were looking for two stabbing suspects.

Just after 3 AM this morning, two suspects walked into the apartment complex at 603 Allison Avenue.

“Heard a knock on the door, opened the door to two suspects standing there.  One of them had a metal pipe,” says Des Moines Police Sgt. Jason Halifax.

The 54-year-old managed to fight back off one of his attackers.

“He was able to get that pipe away from the suspect and then was stabbed by the second suspect,” says Halifax.

The man was stabbed six times in the back and stomach.  The fight wasn’t over yet.  It moved outside to the parking lot.

“The victim was able to strike the suspect's car with a metal pipe so given the fact that you have a guy in the parking lot that's injured and bleeding and a car that's fleeing the area, it certainly could have the appearance of a hit and run,” says Halifax.

Police say the attack wasn`t random.  The victim admitted to using meth and identified one of his attackers give investigators.

The suspects were seen leaving in a brown or tan car, but witnesses did not get a license plate.  Police say the 54-year-old victim had a collapsed lung, but his injuries are non-life threatening.
