A stretch of Interstate 80-35 is back open after a six vehicle accident backed up rush hour traffic Tuesday morning.

The Iowa State Patrol says around 7:00 a.m. six vehicles, including a semi, crashed in the southbound lanes of 35/80 at the University Avenue ramp.

Troopers say it caused the semi to leak nearly 80 gallons of oil onto the roadway. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources was called in to clean up the spill.

Paramedics took one woman to the hospital, her condition is not known.

North of University to the Hickman off ramp had to be shut down while troopers investigated the scene. They opened it back up just before 9:30 a.m.

The Iowa State Patrol is looking into the cause.

I know what the cause is, that crappy on/off ramp comming off of Uni onto 80/35.

    • I agree. The Interstates here need Much Improvements. I traveled for 3 months and Many States have done tremendous improvements. As in: Added Many Expressways “Bypass’s” as Iowa calls them. Widened many Interstates as well. The “Bypass’s” would alleviate Most all traffic problems in Iowa.
