The Christmas Drive is officially underway.

The drive is sponsored by the Waukee Police Department and is not officially sponsored by the city of Waukee.  The Christmas Drive lets those who want to help can donate gifts, adopt a family in need or apply for holiday help.

Those who want to help by donating can give new items like unwrapped toys, hand soap, paper towels, cleaning products, canned foods or make a cash donation.  Food and toy items can be delivered to the Waukee Food Pantry at Westview Church.

Those who would like to ‘adopt’ a family for the holidays can get their adoptive family from the Police Department and from there, buy and wrap the items from a provided list.   Once the items are bought and wrapped, they can be delivered to the Police Department for distribution.

Those in need during the holiday season due to financial hardship can apply to receive help through the application on the city of Waukee’s website or at the Waukee Police Department.  Applications for families who need assistance will be taken until Dec. 6.

Last holiday season, Waukee helped 138 families including 394 children and 61 seniors.
