ARMED ROBBERY: Shots Fired, Suspect Arrested

Urbandale Police have arrested the armed suspect that robbed a convenience store late Friday afternoon which later developed into a police pursuit that involved a hit - and -run and at least two gun shots being fired.

36 - year - old David Sanchez Jr. robbed a victim outside Quick Trip at the intersection of Merle Hay Road and Meredith Drive around 4:15 pm.

According to police, after Sanchez robbed the victim, he fired a shot into the ground.

Sanchez then fled from the gas station in a beige Mercury Sable to the intersection of 86th Street and Meredith Drive, where he was involved in a hit and run accident. The status of the victim has not been released.

Then police say the suspect attempted to break into a business at the 9200 block of North Park Drive, where another shot was fired into the air by Sanchez.

Just before 5:00 pm, police say he drove to the Kum and Go gas station at the corner of NW Urbandale Drive and Plum Drive where he turned himself in.

No one was injured during the robbery or pursuit. Police say it is unclear what Sanchez's motives were at this time. Police continue to investigate.

Sanchez faces pending charges ranging from 1st degree robbery to discharging a firearm within city limits.
