A family in Waterloo kicked off their Thanksgiving Day in a unique way.

The Elfritz family held the first annual Turkey Trot 5K but spiced it up.  The family members dressed up as turkeys while one other person dressed up as a hunter.

The turkeys then ran from the hunter for the 3.1 mile journey.

The Elfritz family said they hope this becomes a local tradition.

“One of the girls decided we should do something before the big Thanksgiving family meal and we all fell for it,” said Steve Elfritz.

Steve invited anyone who wants to participate to join the family next year for their Turkey Trot.
