The holiday weekend meant more work for the Des Moines Fire Department.

One of the eight fires they were called to since Friday was caused by a cigarette according to investigators.

The home owner was treated for minor injuries.

In addition to the fires, the department was also called to assist with 82-investigations.  They involved smoke alarms, unauthorized burns and building sprinkler systems.

Firefighters were also called to help with 181-medical calls over the holiday weekend.

The fire department says it’s on pace to break last year’s record of nearly 21,000 calls.
