A metro family will celebrate Christmas in a new home.

Habitat for Humanity held its final home dedication of 2013 Monday afternoon at 1153 18th Street in Des Moines.

In all, Habitat helped move 27 families into new homes, the most ever in one year.

This home is going to a family that has been living in an apartment with five kids ranging in age from 21 to 5.

“A house like this that is making a difference for the family,” Executive Director Lance Henning says. “It’s also making a difference to the neighborhood and lifting up the neighborhood as a part of that.”

Habitat for Humanity doesn’t hibernate during the cold months. Officials say the group will work through the winter and plans to move 30 families in 2014.
