Workers are being allowed back into two West Des Moines buildings originally evacuated Monday morning because of the discovery of a suspicious package.

Officials now say the substance found in the mail center at Sammons Annuity Group at 4350 Westown Parkway was eggshells. The building is part of the Regency West Office Park.

Employees in the mail room of Building 8 found the substances in a package and followed company protocol, notifying authorities.

Buildings 7 and 8 were evacuated because they share air handling systems.

The Postal Inspector used equipment to test the package and determine it posed no threat.

Employees were allowed back into the buildings around 1:30 p.m.
