AGRIBUSINESS: Farm Bill Could Be Pushed Back To January
Time is running out on a farm bill, and now House Ag Committee Chair Frank Lucas says it’s possible that there may not even be a vote on it by the end of the year.
According to Lucas, a broad framework could be hammered out this month, but he says the conference committee isn’t at that point yet.
Lucas claims it simply isn’t possible to have a bill passed in the next 10 days, before the House leaves December 13 for recess. However he does concede that having the groundwork laid now could lead to a finished bill in January.
On Tuesday, Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack said USDA is ready and willing to implement permanent law on January 1 if need be.
