Lyric and Elizabeth were murdered near Evansdale

Thursday marks the one-year anniversary of the discovery of the bodies of missing Evansdale cousins Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins.

KWWL reports 146 days passed between their disappearance and the discovery of their bodies by hunters in a Bremer County wildlife area.

Police say the kidnapping and murder case is still an active investigation but no arrests have been made.

Elizabeth’s parents say they’re certain it will happen.

“You’re going to be caught, today. It may not be today. It might be tomorrow. Be ready for that knock on your door. It’s coming. They are going to catch you. You are caught, as good as caught right now,” says Drew Collins, Elizabeth’s father.

Kent Smock, Evansdale Police Chief, says “Most cases within the first 24 to 48 hours develop a direction that the case follows. This case is very complex. It’s frustrating but it had taken so many different directions.”

Chief Smock says they are following up on a number of leads, including Michael Klunder.

In May of 2013, Klunder abducted two girls near Dayton. One of the girls was able to escape, but he killed the other before taking his own life.

Smock says they are still looking into his whereabouts on July 13, 2012. That’s the day the girls went missing.

He says they have information about where Klunder might have been, but they aren’t ready to release it.
