A northwest Iowa woman has been charged with murder in the death of a toddler who died while in her care.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety says 33-year-old Rochelle Sapp was arrested Thursday and charged with first degree murder and child endangerment resulting in death.

Investigators say Sapp was providing day care in her home for three-year-old Autumn Elgersma on October 29th when the child suffered severe head trauma. She was initially treated at the Orange City Hospital but was transferred to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota because of the severity of her injuries. Elgersma died on October 31st.

An autopsy shows the child died from a blunt force head injury and her death has been ruled a homicide.

Sapp is being held in the Sioux County Jail on a bond of $250,000.

  • FINALLY… Our judicial system has begun to realise MURDER is MURDER in the case of a child’s life being taken. I have been sick to death of these wimpy charges of neglect, child endangerment, and child endangerment resulting in death. A child’s life is just as important as any adult.
