A comment by Iowa’s Rep. Steve King on illegal immigrants sparked heavy criticism earlier this year. Friday he showed up at an event supporting those who immigrated legally.

This past year King described illegal immigrants as having calves the size of cantaloupes from hauling drugs across the border. King has been a strong opponent of illegal immigration.

He’s also fought Congressional attempts to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants already living in the United States.

Friday King showed up to support immigrants who came to America legally. King attended a naturalization ceremony for 15 new Americans Friday afternoon in Sioux City.

“I often talk about, think about, read about, and pray about what makes America great…and this is a component of it,” says King.
