CENTSABLE HEALTH: Baking Substitutes For Holiday Treats
Fareway Dietitian Whitney Packebush said experimenting with your recipes while baking can be tricky. But Packebush did have some tips to help make baking your favorite holiday treats a little healthier.
For example, instead of using heavy whipping cream, you can substitute fat-free evaporated milk. You’ll end up with the same consistency in the end.
Packebush also recommended using two egg whites instead of one whole egg because it cuts down on the fat, cholesterol and calories. Another easy swap is using dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate, because of their richness and antioxidants.
Packebush also recommends using unsweetened apple sauce instead of butter or oil in some of your recipes.
