Four fire departments are battling a fire at West Des Moines home in an isolated area.
The fire was called in by the homeowner Monday morning after he thought there was a problem with a wood burning stove. When firefighters arrived at the home at 5100 Grand Avenue they found the entire attic area of the home engulfed in flames.
The home sits about a quarter of a mile back from the road which has posed a challenge for crews fighting the fire. A lot of hose has been run from the water source to the house for crews to use. Firefighters have also been hampered by extreme cold temperatures and winds that are working against them.
Officials say the fire is under control but still burning. Firefighters are expected to be on the scene throughout the day Monday.
Fire crews from West Des Moines, Norwalk, Clive, and Northern Warren are helping put out the fire.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
