Taking the bus Tuesday will help feed hungry Iowans.

All cash collected on DART buses throughout the day will be donated to the Food Bank of Iowa. It’s called Fares for Food Day. DART riders can make donations of their standard boarding fares, which start at $1.75. People with a pass can also make cash donations of any amount.

Officials with the Food Bank of Iowa say one in eight Iowans are food insecure and for every one dollar donation, the organization can provide four-and-a-half meals.
