MOCK CAUCUS: Students Get Political
Barack Obama’s first presidential run got younger voters excited about showing up at the polls. But that excitement lessened four years later.
Around 51-percent of the millennials, those between 18 and 29, voted in 2008. That dropped 6-percent in 2012.
Tuesday, Democrats and Republicans have come together to try to get teens excited about voting for the first Polk County mock caucus.
Organizers say 300 teens from a dozen metro schools will attend and will teach them how to caucus during the event. They want them to know this just isn’t politics. They’ll get into issues like school, getting jobs and healthcare.
