There’s been a little progress on the farm bill, but House Ag Chair Frank Lucas says there won’t be any breakthroughs prior to January.
Tuesday night Lucas stated his intention to file legislation to extend current farm policy. The idea is to float the conference committee through the holiday break without the threat of outdated farm law resurfacing on the first of the year.
House Ag Ranking Member, Collin Peterson says the extension is a bad idea, and Senate Ag Chair Debbie Stabenow is not expected to support an extension of any kind.
Stabenow hopes House leadership will keep the House in session next week despite the break, but House Speaker John Boehner strongly supports an extension.
