A Des Moines man who escaped from a work release facility last month is facing new charges.

The Polk County attorney’s office filed felony escape charges against Orlando Rodriguez Tuesday.

Rodriguez was put on escape status November 3 after he failed to return to the Fort Des Moines facility.

Authorities found him the following day at a home in Des Moines. He could be arraigned next week.

Rodriguez was convicted in the 2009 hit-and-run death of Bruce Mundy.

Rodriguez served four years of a ten year sentence before he entered the work release program.

“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that ‘my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.’”
