HITMAN TRIAL: Huser’s Work Ethic Focused On

The jury learned more about Vern Huser’s work ethic in his first degree murder re-trial.

Huser is accused of hiring a hitman to kill Lance Morningstar who had an affair with his wife.

The defense is building its case as to the kind of man Huser is. Wednesday saw six witnesses called to the stand including Huser’s best friend. Rick Anderson testified that he never heard Huser talk about harming Morningstar.

Anderson added that Huser was a hard worker and talked about several buildings the two owned together.

The defense also called Vern Huser’s daughter-in-law to the stand. She testified that she helped keep Huser’s books for his personal and business accounts a couple of times a week.

When asked by the defense she said never heard Huser make threats towards his ex-wife or Lance Morningstar.

Earlier in the trial the state had witnesses testify that they heard Huser make threats towards Morningstar at Ankeny Sanitation.

Huser has yet to take the stand in his own defense. That is expected to happen by the end of the week.

The judge said he is hoping to have both sides share their closing arguments on Monday.
