JUVENILE HOME: Group Says Isolation Continued
State records show the Iowa Juvenile Home continued to keep children in isolation cells for extended periods of time despite concerns raised by a task force investigating the facility.
According to the Des Moines Register, teens at the Toledo facility spent a total of 365 hours in seclusion in October. That’s more than four times the 80 hours logged in September.
The group Disability Rights Iowa says it visited the facility in October and found a teen had been in seclusion for 111 hours.
The Department of Human Services announced Monday that it will close the home, transfer the 21 teens to other programs, and lay off 93 employees.
