MURDER CASE: First Trial In Beating Death

Opening statements in a Des Moines man’s first degree murder trial began Wednesday after two days of jury selection.

Eighteen-year-old Kent Tyler III is accused in the August beating death of Richard Daughenbaugh.

Forty-year-old Daughenbaugh was found near the Center Street Bridge on August 25th, Tyler allegedly attacked Daughengaugh after he pulled his car into a parking lot.

Three other men also face first degree murder charges for allegedly taking part in the attack. Leprese Williams, James Shorter, and Yarvon Russell are all being tried separately.

Tyler remains in custody at the Polk County Jail.
