Bell ringers for the Salvation Army had a little company during their shift Saturday afternoon.

“Live reindeer, I mean how often do you get to see a live reindeer? And Santa, of course, makes it fun,” said Jim Civitate of the Salvation Army.

Santa and Rebecca the Reindeer joined the bell ringers at the Dahl’s Foods on EP True Parkway.  Over the last three years, Rebecca and her owners have made at least appearance in the metro.

The Salvation Army said Rebecca was a huge hit with people of all ages.

“The kids love it, the adults love it.  We’re providing hot chocolate and coffee today and just providing smiles for all the people coming by the story,” Civitate said.

There is a little less than two weeks left in the bell ringer campaign and the Des Moines Salvation Army said it is less than half-way to the goal of $1.2-million.   There will be 60 bell ringers in the metro until Dec. 24.
