Johnston police say a man is in the hospital after being stabbed by his father-in-law Sunday night.

It happened after 9:00 p.m. at 6845 Hemingway Street. Police responded to a call of a fight between two men where one of them had a knife.

When they arrived, officers found 25-year-old Justin Sanford inside with a stab wound to his abdomen. Witnesses say Sanford was visiting James Allen when the two got into an argument and Allen stabbed him.

Sanford is being treated at Mercy Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Allen faces attempted murder and willful injury charges. He’s in the Polk County Jail on a $35,000 bond.
