A Council Bluffs man has been charged with second degree murder in the October death of a Glenwood woman.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says 24-year-old Chad Fortner killed 47-year-old Carol Meston. Emergency crews were called Meston’s home on October 12th on an altercation. Fortner claimed he and another man were involved in an altercation when Meston was knocked to the ground and hit her head on a piece of furniture.

Meston died from her injuries the following day.

An autopsy ruled Meston’s death a homicide, saying she suffered a rupture of a vertebral artery.

Fortner is being held in the Mills County Jail on a bond of $50,000.
