It’s the time of the year for gift giving. But one Iowa non-profit wants you to give back in a way you might not have considered.

The Lifeserve Blood Center wants you to consider giving blood this holiday season.

A special pay it forward blood drive will take place next Monday at the Valley Community Center at 4444 Fuller Road in West Des Moines.

There are no appointments necessary, just show up anytime between 2-6 p.m.

Blood donations are especially needed this time of the year. Busy holiday schedules, poor winter weather conditions and the cold and flu season can take a major toll on the local blood supply.

“This is the time of year where people are very generous with their resources and time so we’re just hoping blood donation is something they consider,” says Lifeserve’s Beth Philips.

“Blood donation takes less than an hour and you’re actually only donating blood for 5-10 minutes so it’s really easy way to give back and the benefit is profound. You can save up to three patients’ lives with one single blood donation.”

All donors will get a free t-shirt.

The greatest need is for o-negative and a-negative blood types.

Donating blood is the best thing a person can do during the holidays. The number of donors decreases this time of year, so every effort is appreciated and crucial! Thanks to everyone who donates for saving lives!
