The trial of a man accused of shooting and killing a Rockwell City police officer has been moved out of Calhoun County.

Thirty-two-year-old Corey Trott is charged with first degree murder in the death of officer Jamie Buenting. Police officers were trying to arrest Trott on an assault warrant at a home in Rockwell City on September 13th when the shooting happened.

Officers were approaching the home at 502 Pleasant Street during a standoff with Trott when police say he shot at them. Buenting was hit and died from his injuries.

Trott’s attorney filed for a change of venue because of pretrial publicity and a judge has granted the motion. The trial will now be held in Clarion in Wright County. It is set to begin April 21st.
