Iowa Select Farms hosted its annual pork giveaway Wednesday morning in the metro.
The company handed out 3,000 free boneless pork roasts at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. That’s about $32,000 worth of food.
Iowa Select Farms, based in Iowa Falls, is the state’s largest pork producer. Each year, the owners focus on providing hunger relief for Iowans.
Jen Sorenson says she hopes some people who picked up a pork loin Wednesday morning would pay it forward.
“A lot of the people show up and take a pork loin to deliver it to someone else. A neighbor they might know, a son or a daughter or a grandparent that might be shut in. So we see a lot effort to take it to someone they know needs some help,” says Sorenson.
Iowa Select Farms along with the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation are also donating 7,200 pork loins to 60 community organizations across rural Iowa this month.
