Des Moines Fire Department crews responded to nine vehicle accidents between 2:00 and 9:00 Friday morning.
But the bigger hazard was walking to your car. The department’s Brian O’Keefe says paramedics treated more than a dozen slip and fall incidents.
Des Moines hospitals say they’ve treated more than 50 patients so far for ice related injuries.
Firefighters also responded to an accident where an SUV tipped while it was going down and icy hill at Southeast First Street near Indianola Road. Firefighters helped the driver get out through her sunroof.
The woman refused treatment on scene from paramedics.
