Christmas came early for the salvation army this weekend.

An anonymous donor dropped a South African gold Krugerrand in a red kettle at the Dahl’s food store on Fleur drive on Saturday.  It’s the second gold coin to show up in the Des Moines area this season.

The coin donated Saturday is worth more than 12-hundred dollars.

The Salvation Army’s bell ringer campaign goal this year is to raise $1.2 million.  There are 60 bell ringers in the metro through Dec. 24.
