TRADE DEALS: Branstad Co-Signs Letter To President, Congress

Governor Branstad joined 14 other governors to send a letter to President Obama and Congress Monday.

Branstad is pushing for them to move forward on three trade agreements.

The governor says the US needs to find better ways to open up foreign markets and encourage future investments in the US.

“With an increasingly competitive global economy, it is important for President Obama and Congress to break-down barriers to international trade,” Branstad said in a press release. “Trade helps drive economic growth through high-paying jobs for American workers and increased opportunities for American businesses and agricultural producers.”

According to Iowa’s Department of Economic Development, the state exported over $14.6 billion worth of goods around the world last year

From 2011 to 2012 Iowa exports grew by about 10 percent. National growth was just 4.5 percent.

More than 2,500 Iowa companies export products outside of the US.
