WIND CHILL ADVISORY: Coldest Air of the Year

Bitterly cold air is in place over Central Iowa. Skies will be mostly sunny for the remainder of the afternoon. Highs will be in the single digits. A WIND CHILL ADVISORY is in effect in northern and central Iowa through noon Tuesday. Wind Chills may be as low as 25 to 30 below zero at times. Temperatures are forecast to drop to near -8 overnight. If this happens, it will be the coldest temperatures of 2013.

Christmas Eve a warm front will lift across the state, taking temperatures back to the teens. The warm front will also bring light snow across the state. Snow will be likely Tuesday afternoon and evening. 1 to 3″ is forecast across the area. Christmas Day will be dry and slightly warmer with highs near 30.
