The driver who crashed into a senior center on Des Moines’ north-side last week has had his charge upgraded to vehicular homicide.
Police arrested Damien Brockett last week.
Brockett’s passenger, Cara Nelson, died from injuries she received in the accident.
Police are still waiting for blood alcohol level results to come in on Brockett. Vehicular homicide by OWI charges are pending.
The 32-year-old is also charged with second degree theft and possession of prescription drugs.
Police say Brockett was speeding down Second Avenue in a stolen SUV last week when he went off the road and hit a garbage can. They say he overcorrected, spun out and slammed into the Northside Senior Center.
Brockett remains in the Polk County jail.
