CENTSABLE HEALTH: The Simple Foods Movement

Shoppers may have noticed a new trend in their foods at the grocery store, the foods with ‘simply’ or ‘simply made’ in the label.  Fareway Dietitian Whitney Packebush said this is the next big trend in processed foods.

Packebush said the idea behind the simple food trend is that the product would be made with natural ingredients or with as few ingredients as possible.  Because there is no standard definition behind the simply made foods, companies may be trying to take advantage of consumers.   Be sure to check out the label on the back of all foods you buy to ensure you’re buying what you want.

For fans of foods simply made, be sure to consider the original simple foods: nuts, fruits and vegetables.
