DRIVING SAFETY: Iowa Fatalities See 70 Year Low

The winter weather is making driving dangerous but 2013 will still go down as one of the safest years in Iowa history.
Iowa is on track to have the fewest number of fatal accidents since 1943.
It comes as little consolation for the families of the 316 people who were killed in traffic accidents so far this year. But that figure is well below last year’s total of 365.
In 1970 more than 900 people were killed in crashes.
The DOT credits this year’s lower number with increased seatbelt use, safer cars and better engineered road designs.
