Jack Hatch is now the only Democrat in the race for governor.

Thursday morning Hatch announced his fellow Democrat, former Rep. Bob Krause, has decided against pursing his party’s nomination for governor and will endorse Hatch instead.

In Hatch’s statement he praised Krause’s work on veterans issues and his willingness to help unite Democrats to face the common opponent — Republican governor Terry Branstad.

“I’m honored to receive Bob’s endorsement today. I’m excited about having him represent our campaign to Iowans. I’m even more pleased that Bob decided it was important for all Democrats to come together as soon as possible so that we can assemble the broadest possible coalition to move Iowa past Terry Branstad’s legacy of failure,” says Hatch.

Krause has announced he’ll focus on a run for U.S. Senate in 2016, trying to oust Republican Charles Grassley from the seat he’s held since 1981.
