Iowa leaders have filed a lawsuit to stop the closure of the Iowa Juvenile Home.

A special task force created by Gov. Terry Branstad recommended the closure last month. It came after reports surfaced that youth were kept in isolation rooms for long period of time.

Now authorities are in the process of removing the 21 youth from the Toledo home.

AFSCME Iowa Council 61 president Danny Homan, Senator Jack Hatch, Senator Steve Sodders, Representative Mark Smith and Representative Pat Murphy filed a lawsuit Thursday in Polk County court.

It seeks an injunction to prevent the closing of the Iowa Juvenile Home, saying it’s illegal for Branstad to order its closure because the Iowa Legislature has approved funding for it through fiscal year 2015.

All 93 employees from the home are scheduled to be laid off on January 16th
