The state of Iowa is expanding its use of the online payment company Dwolla.

Since 2013, companies have been able to use Dwolla to make cigarette tax stamp payments to the Iowa Department of Revenue. Now gas taxes can be paid the same way.

State leaders say Dwolla has helped streamline the payment process and is cheaper and easier than writing a check or using a credit card.

The cash-based electronic payment network allows users to pay a flat fee for a transaction instead of variable percentages and fixed-fees per transaction.
