A new website designed to help renters find the ideal place to live is now up and running.
The site is a statewide service that allows landlords to list their properties and renters to search for available units.
There are already 20,000 units listed. It’s a free service supported by a 50-person call center.
The detailed listings allow renters to compare between specific things like accessibility features.
Des Moines renter Michelle Meadors helped launch the site. She wishes the site would have been active when she was looking for an apartment a year ago.
“This gives the people with disabilities and the elderly the option to live more independently in the communities that are available in the state of Iowa and the options that are out there,” Meadors said.
Thirty-four other states already have similar sites. IowaHousingSearch.org is paid for through the Iowa Finance Authority.
