A former Des Moines police officer will be released from federal prison Friday.

Mersed Dautovic is just finishing up his 20-month prison sentence. He was convicted of a criminal civil rights violation and obstruction of justice in 2012.

The charges stem from a 2008 traffic stop in which Dautovic and his partner beat Octavius Bonds.

Dautovic is currently serving time at a facility in Kansas City.
