Eastern Iowa got the brunt of Saturday’s winter weather storm.

KWWL reported Dubuque was hit by ice as well as thick waves of snow causing a big mess for eastern Iowa roads.

Slick weather caused a major pileup, leaving one Iowa State Patrol trooper injured.

There were 30 vehicles involved in Sunday’s crash.  The 30-car pileup happened early Sunday morning on I-80 near Iowa City.

It all started when a truck jack-knifed and set off a chain reaction of crashes.  Eastbound lanes stayed closed for most of Saturday.

Authorities said people driving too fast on the slippery roads led to the crashes.

The state trooper injured in the wreck was the trooper who responded to the crash.  Another vehicle lost control while driving and smashed into the trooper’s car.

The Iowa State Patrol said the trooper was not seriously hurt in the crash.
