Iowa Senator Jack Hatch is hoping to defeat Governor Branstad in the upcoming gubernatorial as well as raise the state's minimum wage up to around $10 per hour.  The last time the minimum wage was raised in Iowa was in 1990 by Governor Branstad himself.

Branstad said he chose to raise the minimum wage in 1990 because it was a modest increase and one that would not negatively impact the state's economy.  He said that this time around, he thinks Iowa would be better served by working toward growing better paying jobs and businesses in the state.
