Temperatures reached record highs in western Iowa.
KTIV reported that Whispering Creek Golf Club in Sioux City had dozens of golfers out on links. Many were able to play on the course without even a coat.
While it’s unusual for the course to be open mid-January, employees at Whispering Creek said they try to get the club open for golfers as often as they can during the winter.
Golfers playing were happy to take the golf club up on the offer.
“Really, anytime we have a nice weekend, we send out an email saying, ‘Hey, our course is going to be open. Feel free to stop by and play, or stop in and have a meal.’ Something like that,” said
“It’s kind of to keep our hospitality up and make sure everybody’s happy with our course,” said Pro Shop Attendant Tyler Malenosky.
“I’m loving life right now, are you kidding me? January 19th, we’re playing golf and I have no coat on,” said golfer Troy Worden.
Whispering Creek said it will be monitoring the weather for the rest of the winter for any other potential, if unusual, golfing opportunities.
