The Governor, Lieutenant Governor and other Iowans honored Dr. Martin Luther King during a celebration Monday.

Movement 515 performed during the vent combining creative writing with performance to inspire change.

Students from 5th through 8th grade were also honored for essays they wrote.

This year’s keynote speaker was NAACP’s Redditt Hudson.

“We were born into this reality. Our responsibility is to fully acknowledge it and do something about it. That’s it,” Hudson said.

Simon Estes was one of this year’s winners of the MLK Achievement Award.
