Metro communities say they’ve used well over half of their snow removal budgets.

Des Moines says it has spent 59-percent of its budget so far. That’s about $2 million.

Both Clive and Urbandale report using about 65-percent of their budgets so far. Clive city officials say the $84,000 it has spent so far is twice the amount used at this time last year.

The smaller, more frequent storms are causing cities to use more of their budgets.

All three cities say they’ve spent more this year, compared to last year at this time.
