Those struggling to keep their houses warm during this cold winter could catch a break.

State lawmakers have filed an emergency bill to lower the cost of propane.

This week propane prices have more than doubled reaching $5-per-gallon.

The bill will add $1-million to the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program or LIHEAP.

On Monday lawmakers will also meet with representatives from Iowa’s propane industry to talk about other steps they can take to keep prices low.
