Iowans are ready to take the challenge to live healthy.

“I really want to make the healthy lifestyle change once and for all,” said Shawnna Stiver.

For the next 10 weeks, Stiver will track every step she takes.  After losing 50 pounds on her own two years ago, she's now part of a team, the Dream Team.

“Habits kind of start creeping back in and so this is sort of the perfect opportunity,” Stiver said.

She signed up for Live Healthy Iowa’s 10 Week Wellness Challenge.  More 23,000 people have signed up to compete as teams.  The challenge starts on Monday and will run until April.  Teams will compete by tracking and reporting their weight loss and workouts.  Last year, Iowans taking the challenge lost more than one-million pounds.

“By them seeing our struggles and what's working for us, you know we can help inspire them and motivate everyone else to do the challenge,” Stiver said.

“I think it's the team component that really keeps people going throughout.  When the going gets tough, it's those team members and team captains that are pushing them along,” said Nicole Bruce with Live Healthy Iowa.

The 10 Week Wellness Challenge runs from January 27th to April 4th.  It costs $20 and there are incentives and prizes along the way.  Participants will also get a t-shirt and magazine subscription.

There is still time to sign up for the 10 Week Wellness Challenge on the Live Healthy Iowa website here.
