MURPHY’S LAW: Football Rules America, Latest Lolo Backlash, UnBelizeable Slide Show

The Pro Bowl was better. Looked more like tackle football than flag football. Team Rice vs Team Sanders concept didn’t quite work, but at least guys tried this year…

A new Harris Poll shows Americans favorite sport is overwhelmingly pro football. You knew that. And it’s not even close. Baseball is (a distant) second, not college football, which comes in third. (Though baseball fans have just one option in the poll, while football presents two.) Auto racing is fourth, then men’s pro basketball narrowly edges hockey. Men’s college basketball comes in 7th with just 3% of the vote. This is national polling. Here in Iowa, college football and men’s college basketball would both rate much higher. If you want to see more from the Harris Poll, go here…

Super Bowl forecast calls for temps in the mid-30s. Perfect. That sounds more like football than 72 degrees inside on carpet…

Richard Sherman let his amped-up emotions turn him into a pro wrestler, but the rant was overblown. So was criticism of Erin Andrews. She did fine. What else was she supposed to do? Andrews is an easy target, but that doesn’t mean she always deserves to be…

I read Grisham’s “The Racketeer” this week. Like most Grisham books, it’s a page-turner. However, this one is completely implausible, and unfortunately for me, I guessed the big twist long before it arrived. It feels like Grisham is repeating himself, but the dude can read this blog from atop his pile of cash. It’s Grisham, so he probably keeps his money in the Caymans…

Has anyone seen Kevin Hart on TV lately? Hart needs to do a better job of generating publicity (sarcasm font)…

The Hawks shouldn’t fall five spots in the AP poll after losing at red hot Michigan and blowing out Northwestern, but it really doesn’t matter right now. Keep winning, tournament seeding takes care of itself…

It drives some Cyclone fans crazy when they hear ISU needs to make threes to win, but this season it’s largely true. It’s never just one thing (see rebounding), but what’s the common denominator in ISU’s losses? When the Cyclones are filling it up from deep, everything else opens up, and the mismatches tilt Iowa State’s way, despite being undersized…

Since moving to featherweight, Jeremy Stephens has re-energized his career. Lil’ Heathen’s on a roll…

Wonder how hard one must have to work to make three Olympic teams in two different sports? Lolo Jones catches a lot of flack for someone who keeps trying…

Tony Stewart still has a titanium rod in his leg from his August wreck in Oskaloosa. Stewart’s team will put extra padding around the leg, and Tony plans to drive the Daytona 500 next month. No one questions his toughness. Sanity maybe. But not toughness…

My wife would love us to take all of our vacation in January and February. That’s another way of saying, she’s not a fan of freezing temperatures. 43 years in Des Moines hasn’t changed that. Anyway, we just returned from a few days in Belize. For anyone interested, here’s a photo album…

Today, I went to the beachfront with my children. I found a
sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell to her ear and screamed.
There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back!
LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had to tell someone!
